Prof. Doaa M. Shawky
Biography
Prof. Doaa M. Shawky holds a Ph.D. in Software Engineering from Cairo University. She is the Founding Director of the Software Development (SWD) Program at the School of Computational Sciences and Artificial Intelligence (CSAI), where she led the program’s establishment, strategic design, and academic development from inception. She has reviewed curriculum design, labs establishment, industry integration, and research-driven program advancement.
Her expertise spans software architecture and design, AI-augmented software engineering, distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and large-scale intelligent systems. She has supervised over 15 senior graduation projects and more than 20 MSc and Ph.D. students, guiding research in applied machine learning, scalable enterprise systems, and intelligent computing platforms.
Prof. Shawky serves as a reviewer for several scientific journals and is the Managing Editor of the Journal of Engineering and Applied Science. She has also participated as a speaker and judge in local and international competitions.
Beyond academia, she has worked as a Software Architect and consultant on large-scale software projects, advising on system architecture, scalability, and AI integration. She is an active member of IEEE, contributing to the global professional community in computing and engineering.
Prof. Doaa M. Shawky is a Professor of Software Engineering and the Founding Director of the Software Development (SWD) Program at the School of Computational Sciences and Artificial Intelligence (CSAI), Zewail City of Science and Technology, Egypt. She earned her Ph.D. in Software Engineering from Cairo University in 2005 and has since built a distinguished career combining academic leadership, research excellence, and large-scale software engineering practice.
As Founding Director, Prof. Shawky led the establishment and strategic design of the SWD program, overseeing curriculum architecture, lab infrastructure development, industry alignment, and research-driven academic growth. Under her leadership, the program was structured to align with international standards and emerging technological paradigms, particularly AI-driven software systems and cloud-native engineering practices.
Her research and teaching interests span software architecture and design, AI-augmented software engineering, distributed and parallel systems, cloud-native architectures, trustworthy and explainable AI, scalable enterprise platforms, and intelligent data-driven systems. She actively integrates modern AI methodologies into software engineering processes, advancing the discipline toward more adaptive and intelligent system design.
Prof. Shawky has supervised over 15 senior graduation projects and more than 20 MSc and Ph.D. theses across domains including applied machine learning, enterprise microservices architectures, intelligent analytics platforms, and distributed computing systems. Her supervision philosophy emphasizes rigorous engineering foundations, research depth, and real-world applicability.
She serves as a reviewer for several international scientific journals and conferences and is the Managing Editor of the Journal of Engineering and Applied Science. She has also participated as a speaker and judge in numerous local and international academic and innovation competitions, supporting emerging talent and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Beyond academia, Prof. Shawky has worked as a Software Architect and consultant on several large-scale software projects, advising on system architecture design, scalability strategies, AI integration, and enterprise modernization initiatives. Her consultancy experience bridges academic research with industrial implementation at scale.
