Dr. Tamer Ashour Ali
Biography
Dr. Tamer Ashour Ali is an accomplished academic leader and researcher who earned his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Rice University in 2010.
He currently serves as Professor in the Communications and Information Engineering Program and Acting Dean of Strategic Enrollment Management. In these roles, Dr. Ali leverages AI-driven analytics and digital transformation to enhance student recruitment, retention, and educational outcomes. He also spearheads the university’s continuous improvement processes, learning outcome assessments, international accreditation efforts, and faculty development initiatives.
Beyond his administrative leadership, Dr. Ali is a recognized researcher specializing in electromagnetic sensing, nanophotonics, computational methods, and AIoT applications. He has extensive experience leading technical teams to develop advanced sensor systems, including Wireless Sensor Networks, Embedded Systems, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Academic leader with extensive experience in industry and academia. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Rice University in 2010 and has held various leadership roles in both fields.
Currently, Dr. Ali serves as the Acting Dean of Strategic Enrollment Management and Professor in the Communications and Information Engineering Program. In his role as Acting Dean, he oversees institutional strategies for student recruitment, retention, and academic program development, leveraging data-driven decision-making, digital transformation, and AI-driven analytics to enhance educational outcomes and operational efficiency.
Dr. Ali leads the university's continuous improvement processes and short-to-long term action plans, utilizing technology-based tools to drive efficiency. He coordinates the Learning Outcome assessment processes across all programs, leads the efforts for seeking and sustaining international accreditation, coordinates the work with the Learning Technologies Services Office, and oversees the Teaching Effectiveness Office, which develops the skills of the teaching faculty and assistants.
Dr. Ali's research focuses on electromagnetic sensing, nanophotonics, Frequency Selective Surfaces, computational methods, AIoT applications, and software development. His work has been widely recognized, and he has extensive experience managing technical teams and developing advanced sensor systems, particularly in Wireless Sensor Networks, Embedded Systems, and the Internet of Things.
